- CSR in Times of the Financial Tsunami
Does CSR engagement pose any advantages for companies in troubled times? Does social and responsible corporate behaviour pose an advantage in assessing capital? The role of Social Responsible Investment (SRI) and sustainable principles of finance after the global financial meltdown will increase significantly. How will CSR help shape the future of the world financial markets? More and more loan decisions are now made based on not only financial performance, but also on sustainability performances. With institutional investors on the rise, SRI becomes an important consideration for investment decisions. Listing and ranking on sustainable indices are getting more important for investment decisions e.g. FTSE4Good Index, Dow Jones Sustainability Index; and sustainability also creates new opportunities for banks like Carbon Emission trading.
- Responsible Supply Chain
How can CSR help to better control of the supply chain? CSR activities are becoming a vital part of risk management and they are used to ensure customer protection and brand equity. Active practitioners of CSR share their success stories and provide practical solutions on the strategic approach to CSR. In providing greener and safer products and services, this not only can increase the productivity and quality of production, and also build up the sustainable brand image and reputation.
- Measuring CSR Activities
With more and more companies issuing CSR reports or sustainability reports, what are the guidelines for effective reporting? What will be the impact of the coming-up ISO 26000 Guidance to Social Responsibility and the Global Reporting Initiatives on business practices in the future? Integration of CSR reporting into the company information management is crucial. Since CSR activities are diverse and there is no one fit solution for everyone, companies have to develop their own reporting framework to match their requirements; and strengthen corporate governance through the accountability and transparency of reporting.
- NGO & Business Partnership
The role of NGOs in CSR is changing. No longer are they are only the receivers of corporate philanthropy, they now take an active role in developing CSR projects for the benefits of the better environment and society. Multi-stakeholders approach is now being adopted to build better relationships with the local government, corporations, pressure groups and other stakeholders in CSR strategies and evaluation of CSR practices. The emerging role of NGOs makes CSR more transparent and effective in a way of responding to the social needs.
- CSR in SMEs
Is CSR only feasible for Multinational corporations? Successful small and medium size enterprises (SMEs) discovered CSR as a way to differentiate themselves from competitors and open up new market opportunities. Due to limited resources, SMEs have a different approach to CSR and put more emphasis on their industry speciality and the needs in the surrounding community
- Carbon Disclosure
Do sustainable business practices give an advantage? With the increase in pollution and scarcity of resources such as water and energy and the public urge to disclose carbon emissions, companies are faced to find ways to measure and report on their carbon emissions. How do companies approach this and how can stakeholders evaluate carbon disclosure efforts of corporations. What is the state of being in Greater China?
- Changing Mindsets – How to Acquire Knowledge to Advocate CSR in Companies and Business Schools
Since most companies nowadays have their own CSR departments or practice some form of it, how can knowledge and values of CSR be established among employees? CSR is no longer only a form of public relations and marketing, it has moved into core business practices and overall strategy of a company. The development of a continuous learning process for employees becomes crucial. What role does or should CSR play in management education and talent development?
